Support for the Northwest California Wilderness, Recreation, and Working Forests Act
Dear Representative Huffman and Senator Harris:
We strongly support the Northwest California Wilderness, Recreation, and Working Forests Act. Among other provisions, the legislation will:
• Promote forest restoration and fuel-reduction work across over 700,000 acres of public land, especially along roads (where most fires start) and near communities
• Authorize the construction of over 295 miles of new trails open to horses, hikers and mountain bikes
• Help fully restore the hundreds of sites on public lands affected by illegal marijuana cultivation
• Protect over 313,000 acres of federal public lands in perpetuity from road-building and other development
• Protect over 379 miles of some of our wildest remaining streams from new dams and water diversions
• Improve coordination in managing fires in local wilderness areas
• Authorize the construction of 2 new public lands visitors center in Weaverville and Crescent City
We believe that the legislation will protect and restore our forests and streams, improve public safety, produce jobs and benefit tourism.
Please do all you can to advance the bill in Congress. Thank you for your conservation leadership.
