Puppies Puppies (Jade Kuriki Olivo) is a conceptual, performance and installation artist. Her work often draws on the emotional resonance of found objects and shared experiences, exploring love, mortality, power relations and states of being.

In BODY FLUID (BLOOD), Puppies Puppies considers blood as a liquid that unites us all, while exploring the complexities of our inner workings. The exhibition is formed around a constellation of issues and themes: the artist’s family connections and influences, what it means to share and give blood, and what blood may carry or transmit. In addition to an installation in Remai Modern’s Connect Gallery, the project is activated by encounters and procedures, including on-site HIV testing and off-site blood donation. In partnership with Canadian Blood Services, transportation from the museum to a blood donation centre on the Lifebus is offered every Saturday at 11 AM for the duration of the exhibition. To reserve a seat on the Lifebus, please fill out the form below. For those who prefer to visit the donation centre at a different time, use the code BODY175600 to have your donation counted as part of Puppies Puppies’ project.

If you have questions or are unsure about your eligibility, please call to speak with a trained health professional at Canadian Blood Services: 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283).

Your eligibility will be reviewed by a health professional when you arrive at the donation centre.

Puppies Puppies and Remai Modern recognize the personal and political sensitivity around donation eligibility criteria. Those who may not be eligible to donate, or who choose not to, are invited to participate in the project by accompanying or otherwise supporting an eligible donor.

The Lifebus will provide return transportation from Remai Modern to the Canadian Blood Services donation centre at 1206 Emerson Ave, Saskatoon.

The Lifebus is scheduled for Saturdays during the run of Puppies Puppies’ exhibition (September 21 – November 17) at Remai Modern. The bus will depart the museum at 11 AM, and will return at approximately 12:30. There are 10 donor spots available for each date.

Please note that minors under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a non-donating adult at all times. Minors over the age of 10 are permitted to be unaccompanied in the waiting area.

There will be a check-in area for bus riders in the museum’s lobby. Please confirm your attendance by checking in 10 minutes prior to departure.

Additional reminders for those that sign-up.

□    Ensure you have a valid piece of government-issued ID with your full name and date-of-birth. Donated before? Please bring your blood donor card.
□    Make sure you drink lots of water, eat healthy iron-rich meals and get a good night’s sleep. Be well-fed, well-rested, and well-hydrated!
□    Please start hydrating 24 hours before your donation.
□    Having a salty snack and 500 mL of water before you donate is a good idea. Additional snacks and water will be provided at the donor centre.
