Resources for Schools
Marion County Public Works - Environmental Services has resources to help your K-12 school reduce waste and conserve resources. We’re here to help with your recycling, composting, energy, and water conservation efforts.  

The materials listed below are available for free to public and private K-12 schools located within Marion County, Oregon while supplies last.  Some offerings listed below have requirements of the school, but all are provided for free. Please note that requests for resources must come directly from an employee of the school.

Schools certified in the Oregon Green Schools program and public schools will receive priority.  If you aren't sure if your school is a current Oregon Green School or want more information about the program, visit MCGreenSchools.net

11. Field Trips - Marion County can reimburse school field trip transportation costs to pre-approved locations.  If you indicate that you are interested in taking a field trip, we will email you additional information.  There are a limited number of field trips available and schools certified in the Oregon Green Schools program will get priority.  Field trip options include tours of regional reuse, recycling, composting and disposal facilities.

13. Recycling 101 Online Class - This course is offered through Oregon State University and the Association of Oregon Recyclers. PDUs are available for teachers. Suitable for high school classes. Marion County staff can visit your school and do a walk-through to identify possible areas for environmental improvement.  Your school will receive a list of observations with some optional recommendations.  The school must be certified in the Oregon Green Schools program.

Waste audits are a handy way to analyze what you are throwing away in order to find opportunities for waste reduction, improved recycling and possibly adjusting your school garbage service.  Waste audits are the first step in becoming an Oregon Green School.  The activity takes about an hour and we will supply the materials and guidance.

Milk served in cartons leads to a lot of wasted milk and garbage.  Marion County is working with school districts to identify schools that would be good candidates for receiving milk dispensers.  For a variety of reasons, only certain schools are eligible.
