Program Expectations and Guidelines
The parent/guardian will be an active participant in their child’s virtual academy experience. Park Rapids Area teachers will make contact with students/families at least twice weekly to direct instruction, review pacing, provide feedback, and make instructional decisions regarding student progress.
A Chromebook will be provided if requested. Families/students will be responsible for damage and have the option to waive damage if they elect coverage through the district.
Families will need Internet access.
Middle school courses will be provided in the core content areas (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies). Electives will be determined on an individual basis.
High School courses will be provided to meet all graduation requirements of the State of Minnesota and the Park Rapids Area School District. High School students are expected to complete the minimum number of credits as per policy each trimester to maintain appropriate progress toward graduation.
Park Rapids Area staff will connect with students and families, respond to questions, provide feedback, assess learning, and provide reports of progress.
Park Rapids Area School staff will be available during PRAVA classroom hours.
Students will be required to complete the MN Comprehensive Assessments and other assessments as required during the spring of 2021.
Students enrolled in the PRAVA will be allowed to participate in school sponsored extracurricular activities. Students in the Virtual Academy will be required to meet all standards and maintain all established academic and activity participation requirements to participate in extracurricular activities at their current attendance center.
A trimester commitment is required when registering for PRAVA. Students will be allowed to return to their current attendance center beginning with each new trimester. Requests to return to campus must be submitted in writing two weeks prior to the subsequent trimester.
If a student does not abide by the PRAVA expectations and guidelines, truancy will be filed when applicable and/or be removed from the Virtual Academy.
