Dear Family,

The AVID Elective is the middle school and high school classroom component of the AVID Secondary System. AVID prepares students in the academic middle for admission to a four-year college or university. Students take an AVID Elective course throughout middle school and high school, which provides them with the skills needed to be successful in advancing academically with the ultimate goal of attending college. For more than 40 years, AVID has been instrumental in preparing students for success in higher education.

The core component of the AVID Secondary System is the AVID Elective, which supports students as they challenge themselves in more rigorous classes. Students are taught study skills, note-taking, time management, writing skills, and research skills, while being immersed in a college-going culture. The class also includes tutoring sessions that are led by college students and provide support for success in the academically rigorous curriculum. Additionally, the AVID class provides access to information about colleges and universities through field trips, guest speakers, college tutors, scholarship opportunities, and college admission requirement information.

AVID recruits students, who are motivated to do well and who are serious about their academic future. Based on grades, district and state assessment results, and qualities of a learner your child has been recommended as an ideal candidate for the AVID Elective and has been invited to participate in the recruitment process. Please complete the application, family information, and short answers on the following pages to help us better know your child and family circumstances.

Application Process:
1. Complete and submit this online application.
2. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an e-mail that indicates the date/time of your interview.
3. You will receive notification to let you know if you were accepted within a week from your interview date.

All information shared on this form will be used for the selection of AVID students and will be held confidential. If you have additional questions prior to completing this form, please contact the AVID Coordinator at the school your child will be attending for the 2023-2024 school year.
