Dear High School Band Director,
The Atlantic Wind Symphony is announcing auditions for our annual solo competition. These auditions are open to any graduating band musician from every high school in Suffolk and Nassau Counties. The winning student will earn a prize of $200, and a solo performance with the Atlantic Wind Symphony on the Sunday, July 2, 2023, concert beginning at 3pm at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Auditions will be held at Newfield High School, 145 Marshall Drive in Selden, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 beginning at 4:30pm. The following requirements must be met by all applicants:
Must be a graduating senior in a high school in Suffolk or Nassau County
Must be a member in good standing of your high school band
Must be a wind, brass, or percussion performer
Must perform a selection with an available BAND accompaniment which is to be provided by the winning applicant
Must submit a completed application form
Must send an application fee of $25, checks made payable to the Atlantic Wind Symphony, which should be postmarked by Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Please send the check with the student's name and "AWS Solo Competition" written in the memo section, to: Dr. Diana Cook, Newfield High School, 145 Marshall Drive, Selden, NY 11784.
Auditions will be evaluated by a committee of performing musicians from the Atlantic Wind Symphony. To ensure impartiality, auditioning students will be separated by a curtain from the adjudicating panel, and will perform anonymously, known only by a number, which will be assigned upon arrival at the auditions.
