Sessions
Session 1: Foundations
of Art, July 8-12 (ages 5-7)
This week we
are going back to the foundational elements of art to help participants
continue to build their artistic skills. Under the larger umbrella terms of
2-dimenstional, 3-dimentional, drawing and painting, participants will explore
a variety of artist movements and mediums. Throughout the week, participants
will explore the museum’s temporary and permanent exhibitions for inspiration.
Session 2: The
Art of Design, July 15-19 (ages 8-11)
Ranging from a
pattern in a painting, a poster on the wall, to the building holding it all,
design is all around us. Our week will be spent exploring how artists and
professionals rely on elements of design for their work. Participants will
explore the work of Power Boothe, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Charles A. Platt and more to create
projects inspired by graphic design, functional art, and architecture.
Session 3:
Adventures in Modern Art, July 22-26 (ages 5-7)
Have you ever wondered
what is modern art? Throughout the week we will begin to answer that question
by exploring the wide range of artists who fall within this category. Participants
will create their own masterpieces inspired by the blockbuster names such as
Pollock, Warhol, and Kahlo and some smaller names whose work may be found in
the Museum’s collection.
Session 4: Material
Mash-Up, July 29-Aug 2 (ages 8-11)
Paint, pastels,
paper oh my! This week is all about taking time to explore a variety of mediums
to create both two- and three-dimensional art. Each project will help students
explore a new way to use familiar material and introduce some newer ones. While
not every material will be a favorite, having experience with them helps lead
to a stronger respect and understanding for artists and art.
