Established with funding from the Kūkʻio, Oak, Takitani, Dorrance, and other generous supporters and foundations, the Ēlama & Hilo One Program at Hawaiʻi Community College - Pālamanui is a very special initiative that makes college possible for Hawai’i residents who have compelling barriers. Scholars can try a year of college for free while taking just a few classes or pursuing a certificate or associate degree.
The strength of the referral is a major consideration during the application review. Referrers should understand the vision and goals of the Ēlama & Hilo One Program to:
- Complete and submit a referral on behalf of an applicant to the program, and
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of how the applicant meets the eligibility requirements, citing specific examples of the barriers the applicant faces while providing additional information where possible.
