HJS Request for leave of absence during term time
Regular attendance and good punctuality at school are not only legal requirements but are essential for children to access a broad and balanced curriculum and to fulfil their education potential.  By law you must request permission from the head teacher for your child to miss school for any reason. Requests should be made in advance and before any arrangements are confirmed. For medical, dental, external examinations (i.e music, dance etc), visits to secondary schools (Yr5 and Yr6 only) please email the school office with details of the appointment.

Parents do not have the right to take their child out of school during term-time. Parents/Carers are expected not to arrange family holidays during term time.  It is at the Head of School's discretion whether any absence is authorised as there is no general right to authorise these absences.  Absence for other reasons will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances and the head teacher will determine the length of the absence authorised.  Our school is regularly monitored by the Education Welfare Officer who identify families where attendance is below 90% and takes action when appropriate.

HPP is committed to addressing poor school attendance and have introduced Fixed Penalty Notices for pupils who will have lower than 90% once their absence is taken.

Please complete a Leave of Absence for each child. Failure to make a request for a Leave of Absence will result in the absence being recorded as unauthorised.

What will happen following your request?

You will receive a letter from the head teacher with a response to your request.
