At 'The Cipher' blog, we love amplifying good work by podcasters from Africa and the Diaspora. So we're excited about the podcasting industry's potential to tell stories that are traditionally under - or misrepresented in other forms of media.

According to the ' Infinite Dial, 'more people than ever - an estimated 57 million people - listened to podcasts in 2021. In addition, Nielsen's leading research shows that 41 percent of podcast listeners in the US alone are people of color. Meanwhile, content leaders like Netflix and Spotify have expanded their operations to Africa.

Yet, less - much less -- than half of the most listened to podcasts of 2021 had a Black host or host of color. Big companies want to change this imbalance. We plan to help them find that content by amplifying podcasts and interviewing creators. We're well-positioned to do so because we have deep, award-winning roots in the radio and podcasting industries.
