Computer and Media Usage Contract

The guidelines in this policy have been established to help students use computers and the Internet in appropriate, educational, and efficient ways. Crater Campus has made every effort, through filtering software, to eliminate inappropriate material, language, and pictures however, no filtering program is 100% effective. Be aware that it is possible that inappropriate material may slip past the filters, in which case the student must report it immediately to the classroom instructor who will report the incident to the technology department so the site can be added to the filter list. To qualify to use school computers, the students and parent/legal guardian must agree to abide by the rules set forth in the district acceptable use policy. Below is a summary of that policy.

I agree to the following rules for using computers and the Internet at school:

·   Use of school computers and laptops, including Internet access, is a privilege, not a right. If I abuse that privilege, I will lose it.

·   District users shall have no expectation of privacy when using District technology, and the district reserves the right to monitor all usage of District technology. I understand that all my use of the school's network is monitored both on campus and at home, and that my activity on school internet and Wi-Fi is filtered for content.

·        District technology may not be used for unlawful purposes, communications that promote violence, viewing or sending obscene materials or pictures, harassment or bullying or intimidation or hatred against another person or group of persons with regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, national origin, age, marital status, or disability.

·        I will not take photographs or record video or audio of anyone without their permission. This includes Crater staff and students.

·        I will not have any of my devices out or in use in any restroom or locker room.

·        District technology is intended for educational purposes. I will not download files, images, software to my laptop without permission.

·        I understand that I am not responsible for what other people say and do on the Internet, therefore if someone else online says or does something offensive or disturbing, or if I see images on a web site that make me feel upset or disturbed in any way, I will report it to an appropriate adult.

·        I will not modify technology equipment (hardware or software) without permission. Please note: this includes not adding stickers to devices.

·        I will immediately report any laptop damage to my teacher.  I understand that I will be responsible for any damage to the laptop that has been assigned to me.

·        I understand that I should not give out personal information about myself or my family on the Internet.

·        The device must be returned by a designated date set by the school, no later than the last day of the school year.

My parent/legal guardian and I have reviewed and discussed the Crater Campus’ Computer and Internet Student Acceptable Use Agreement.  I also understand that I will be responsible to pay a $250 fine for any lost or damaged laptops or Chromebooks, or a $25 fine per lost charger.
