New Teacher Days:  July 30th - August 2nd
Rationale: Feedback for the extension to four days for New Teacher week was positive.
*
Back to School Week for ALL Staff:  August 5th - 13th
Rationale: One additional staff day was added to the Back to School week for all staff. This will allow additional time for Open House preparation and curriculum work for new Literacy and Math standards of learning.
*
Open House: Monday, August 12th
Hours 11am-3pm & 4pm-7pm
Rationale: To provide mid-morning, afternoon and evening hours to accommodate a variety of family schedules.
*
First Day for Students: Wednesday, August 14th (Staggered PreK/K start 8/14 & 8/15)
Rationale: A mid-week start would allow for an abbreviated schedule the first week of school and a staggered start for our youngest Flucos. This supports a positive reacclimation to the school year for all students.
*
Parent Teacher Conferences:
1st Semester
FMS/FCHS Parent Teacher Conferences (9/16-10/11)
Central/Carysbrook Teacher Conferences (9/30-10/25)
2nd Semester
Central/Carysbrook Teacher Conferences (1/27-2/21)
FMS/FCHS Parent Teacher Conferences (2/10-3/7)

Rationale: A month for staggered Elementary/Secondary conferences reduces the burden on families and staff to schedule conferences within a singular week, and better aligns with assessment timelines.
*
Winter Break:
12/19 - Early Dismissal for Students
12/20-1/6 - Student Winter Break
12/20 - Staff Day
12/23-1/3 - Staff Winter Break

Rationale: Building one staff day prior to winter break allows teachers time prior to the winter break to work on report cards and activities needed to transition to a new semester. It also ensures two full weeks off for staff.
*
2nd Semester:

January 6th - Staff Day
January 7th - Students return from Winter Break

Rationale: This provides the 2nd staff day needed to transition to a new semester. By having one staff day prior to break, as opposed to the two traditionally held in January, students are able to return one day sooner.
*
Spring Break: 3/31-4/4

Rationale: By holding Spring Break the first week in April (as opposed to the first full week in April) we are able to better align to Albemarle County Public School's schedule for students attending out of county placements. This also allows for additional instructional time for the window following our return from Spring Break until when students begin end of the year assessments.
*
End of the School Year:
May 21st - Early Dismissal for Students
May 22nd & May 23rd - Staff days
May 23rd - Graduation

Rationale: Allows for Fluvanna County Public Schools to complete the instuctional school year prior to Memorial Day.
*
Student Instructional Days: 174
85 first semester
89 second semester

Rationale: While this calendar is not built on the standard 180 days, the days selected prioritize and maximize instructional time within the calendar year. The additional days second semester when compared to first semester also consider when inclement weather days are typically missed.
*
Early Dismissal Student Days:  4
October 11th
December 19th
February 14th
May 21st

Rationale: The number for early dismissal days for students was kept to a minimum in order to maximize instructional days, as well as be mindful of the child care burdern this creates for many families.

Early Dismissal days in the 24-25 calendar coincide with end of the semesters, and end of marking periods/during parent/teacher confernce windows.
*
Staff Days: 13
Back to School Week Aug 5th-13th (7 days)
November 4th
December 20th
January 6th
March 14th
May 22nd & 23rd

Rationale: Staff days are defined as designated time to prepare curriculum & instruction for students, collaborate with one another, and grow professional knowledge.
