Thirsty Mind Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Be a young woman who identifies as Black attending Penn Hills Senior High School, graduating in June 2023.
  2. Plan on attending a 2-year or 4-year college, university, vocational, or trade school in Fall 2023.  
  3. Minimum 2.3 Cumulative GPA
  4. Be active in at least one organization or extracurricular activity. This includes any school-sponsored activity, club, sport, church organization, or other community outside of school. 

 Submit a 500-word double-spaced essay answering ONE of the following questions: 

  1. Name a specific event or occurrence that has impacted you as a young Black woman. Explain what ways this has impacted you.
  2. Discuss a person or persons who has/have helped shape who you are.
  3. Write about a Black woman who has inspired you to continue seeking your goals despite the numerous challenges and obstacles Black women face in a white-centered society.

Things to remember:

  • The essay is one of the most critical components of your application. It assists in us getting to know you when answering the question of your choice. Please be thoughtful and detailed with your essay.
  • Incomplete essays will automatically disqualify you from consideration for this scholarship.
  • When preparing your essay, we recommend using the following:

  1. Microsoft Word or Google Docs (so that you can keep track of the word count of 500 words).
  2. 12-point Times New Roman Font
  3. Double Spaced.
  4. Please have someone proofread your essay before submission.

 The deadline for submission is Wednesday, May 31st, 2023, at 11:59 pm
