Art Board User Agreement - SIGN UP TO PARTICIPATE

Any person who wishes to use the art boards, whether to gift the community with their artistic expression OR as an interested community member resetting (painting over) an artist’s work, MUST complete and submit a signed agreement acknowledging their understanding and acceptance of the required terms and conditions of use. This must be completed IN ADVANCE of using the art boards. Once the agreement is submitted, SPAN will send an auto-generated message to confirm receipt and to convey its permission to begin using the art boards.

Permissions are granted to the signed artist/user and will be effective for any public boards available and for as frequent use as is permitted by the guidelines until the end of the current calendar year. A renewed agreement must be submitted for each new calendar year.

Any person who does not agree to all terms will not be able to submit a completed agreement and will NOT be permitted to use the art boards. Anyone who uses the art boards without a current agreement on file may be subject to action in violation of SPAN’s guidelines and may be reportable to law enforcement.

If a user neglects these guidelines, then SPAN may rescind its permissions to use the art boards and the user may be subject to penalties for potential violations.

a. Use of the art boards is voluntary and not compensated.

b. Users are responsible for necessary supplies. Independently, the Swanton Arts Council (SAC) accepts requests for donating materials and/or financial support for expenses to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

c. Users are limited to a single use of one side of any art board in a 6-week period to provide opportunity to all participating artists and a variety of content.

d. Work must be dated in the bottom corner of the board as of the first date the artist started using the board.

e. Work must be registered on the SPAN webpage within 24 hours of completion.

f. The two-week minimum exhibition period of dated work must be respected.

g. Work may NOT include moving parts, illumination, electricity, or present other hazards that impairs the public’s ability to safely enjoy the art.

h. The art boards may NOT be removed or kept without explicit permission of SPAN and observance of the defined processes and conditions.

i. Images may NOT include any words/letters, advertisement or otherwise be in violation of State billboard regulations.

j. Images should be “family-friendly” or suitable for audiences of all ages; that serves to beautify the public space; and helps reflect the cultural vibrancy and diversity of the area. The use of symbols, motifs, or colors must be sensitive to cultural issues.

k. A grievance process to register guideline violations, formal complaints, and community issues or concerns with the art board subject matter or program.
