Course Descriptions:
Opti Intro: For new sailors, ideal age range of 8-11. Students will learn about the wind and how it affects our boats. They will learn capsize recovery, vocabulary, knots, and become comfortable in their boats. By the end of the course, students will be able to safely leave the dock, avoid obstacles, adjust their sails during wind shifts, and return home full of smiles and stories.
Opti Adventure: For sailors who have already exceeded the expectations of the intro course. Ideal age range of 9-13. Students will adventure out of the harbor, explore the channel, and deal with more extreme weather. This course will focus on the rules of sailing, what racecourses look like and how we navigate them, how to safely sail in treacherous winds and currents, and how to surf waves. Ability to rapidly recover a capsized boat is required.
Tera Travelers: For sailors who have a solid foundation and want to find the next level. Ideal age range of 10-14. Students must be able and willing to hike hard for long periods. This course will focus on boat speed, downwind maneuvers in challenging conditions, and distance sailing. Adventures to Red Rock, Southhampton, around Brooks Island can be expected. There will be a heavier focus on the rules. Skills in close quarters sailing around buoys will also feature.
Feva Flyers: For sailors who are ready for spinnakers and higher performance sailing. Must be able to work with others. Ideal age range of 12-16. Students must be able to hike hard, swim, get tired, and keep pushing. The course will focus on learning and understanding VMG, higher-level tactics, boat handling, and will focus on crisp maneuvers. Distance sailing is to be expected.
