Please complete and return to the Oak Ridge Poet Laureate Committee by December 31, 2023; self-nominations are encouraged. Forms can also be printed and hand-delivered to the Oak Ridge Public Library.
To be considered by our committee, the Nominee must meet the following requirements/qualifications:
- Nominee must live in the city, have lived in the city for no less than one year, and continue to live in the city throughout the appointment.
- Nominee must have significant publication history which may include full-length books, chapbooks, poems in collections or anthologies, publication in a variety of journals and media including meaningful spoken-word experience characterized by community engagement.
- Nominee should have received recognition in the field and demonstrate literary excellence.
- Nominee must have demonstrated a previous commitment to promoting awareness of poetry.
- Nominee must be 18 years of age and older.
- No posthumous nominations accepted
- Nominee must email a selection of 3-5 poems indicative of the Nominee's work in one document to Erin Elizabeth Smith at eesmith81@gmail.com.
The new Poet Laureate will be notified in February 2024.
