More details: About the Duwamish Valley Climate Resilience Cohort
Participants in the cohort will receive a monthly stipend (October 2022 - March 2023) for participating in the opportunity to learn from peers, guest speakers, be involved in community participatory advocacy workshops, connect with decision makers and lead a personal project related to climate resilience that will inspire ways to act and reduce the impact of climate change in the Duwamish Valley.
The Climate Resilience Cohort Program seeks to provide a wide range of exploration and advocacy skill building related to navigating public comment opportunities and subsequent coaching on topics or policy related to climate resilience. Meeting location TBA, likely in-person or hybrid virtual such as zoom.

Resiliencia Climática del Valle del Duwamish
Los participantes en el grupo recibirán un estipendio mensual de
$150 durante 6 meses (octubre de 2022 - marzo de 2023) por participar en esta
oportunidad de aprender de diferentes fuentes como por ejemplo de sus
compañeros, invitados, por participar en
talleres comunitarios de defensa participativa, por conectarse con los
tomadores de decisiones y llevar a cabo un proyecto personal relacionados con
la resiliencia climática que inspirarán formas de actuar y reducir el impacto
del cambio climático en el valle del Duwamish.
El Programa del Grupo de
Resiliencia Climática busca
Proporcionar una amplia gama
de exploración e información sobre las formas de prepararse y participar en los
comentarios públicos, así como la toma de decisiones relacionadas con la resiliencia
climática. Los miembros del grupo recibirán un certificado al completar los 6
meses de programación.

This opportunity is open to:
Community members looking to gain insight on ways to prepare and engage in public comment and decision making. In addition:
- Have experience setting shared values and working with diverse members of the community.
- Are ready to be involved in public speaking activities and share the knowledge gained in the cohort with family, friends and neighbors.
- Open to learning and looking to gain experience in topics of climate resilience including health.
- Ability to dedicate at least 4-6 hours to monthly meetings and activities (mornings, afternoons, and/or the evening).
- Looking to gain experience as a steppingstone into related profession/personal opportunities!
Cohort members will receive a certificate upon completing the 6 months of programming.
Program Overview:
- October: Welcome and Discovery
Set shared values, general introduction to the topics, program orientation & community building and overview discussion of climate change and resilience in Duwamish Valley.
- November: Analysis and Project Development
Analysis and Project development Individual and/or pair Climate Resilience project development, opportunity to redefine what climate resilience means to you. Learn more about initiatives and policies such as the City of Seattle Green New Deal and Climate Resilience District.
- December: Exploration and Deep Dive
Engage with Guest Speaker(s) and facilitated workshops with partner organizations.
- January: Continue Project Development and Focused Workshops
Transition: support the synthesis, sharing, and adoption of evidence-based practices
- February: Meeting Local Decision Makers
Community presentation, special meeting with an elected officials, and decision makers including peers.
- March: Program Close and Recognition
Duwamish Valley Climate Resilience Cohort solution showcase (symposium) and program wrap up

Physical Requirements: Cohort participation will require being able to sit for periods of time due to meeting setting. Some outdoor and community events may require lifting and moving items less than 30lbs, and public speaking, interacting with people to support cohort activities.
