Are you interested in sharing your vast knowledge of today’s music industry with the new generation of music lovers? Are you open to being a wise, trusted counselor to a student, helping shape their future career decisions and teaching them how to navigate your local music community? Consider becoming a Mentor to one of our talented GRAMMY U members.
SPRING MENTORSHIP PROGRAM DATES:APPLICATIONS: December 12, 2022 - January 27, 2023
PROGRAM: February 13 - May 5, 2023
VIRTUAL ORIENTATION: An overview of the program will be sent out to Mentors as a guide to the mentorship program by February 17.
GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS
• Voting or Professional member of the Recording Academy
• Able to attend at least two virtual or in-person meetings with a student. In-person meetings are at the discretion of you and your Mentee if you are in the same city. However, in order to include as many students as possible, your Mentee may not be in the same city or state as you.
• You are welcome to include your Mentee in as many meetings/opportunities as you would like. We know your time is valuable, so there is no set timeframe for each meeting.
• Desire to inspire the up-and-coming generation of aspiring music professionals
• If you are including Mentees in a meeting/experience of a confidential matter, let the Mentee know this in advance and provide any applicable confidentiality documents used by your company
• This is meant to be a mentorship, not an internship. While encouraging your Mentee to attend in person or online label meetings, production meetings, writing sessions, showcases, studio sessions, etc. is highly encouraged, please keep in mind that they are not there in a typical internship role (copying documents, taking meeting notes, etc.) and are not obligated to accept any additional duties beyond the two meetings.
• Introduce your Mentee to local contacts and resources and encourage him/her to challenge themselves during the program. (e.g. write a song, record a track, write a business plan, overcome stage fright by performing live, learn mingling techniques, write a blog, etc.)
• You can meet with your Mentee in person, or virtually via Zoom, FaceTime, iMessage, etc. Use the communication method that works best for the two of you!
• While we do our best to find a Mentee for every mentor, we may not be able to pair everyone each semester.
• Effective mentoring relationships should always start with setting ground rules and goals.
• Always be respectful of your Mentee and never make jokes of an inappropriate nature that could be misinterpreted.
• Consider conducting mentoring in public places and create safe mentoring environments for both male and female Mentees.
• Should any type of misconduct occur between a Mentor and Mentee, the mentoring relationship will be ended immediately.
• You can volunteer to be a Mentor for as many semesters as you would like!
