AP Course Contract 2020-21

Advanced Placement courses are available to all students who have made an informed decision, which includes taking any prerequisite course and review of the course expectations.

AP courses are considered to be college level courses and students should expect 1 or 2 hours of home study for every hour spent in class. Successful completion of the course will prepare students for the AP exam in the corresponding subject. For most students, there is an adjustment period in the beginning of the course, however, most students adjust to the rigor and learn to perform at a satisfactory level or above.

Students have the option of Dual Enrollment through LFCC in some AP courses offered at JHHS. That is a separate process dictated by LFCC because you are enrolling as a college student. The grade will then show on a college transcript, as well as a JHHS transcript.

All students must complete the contract form for AP Exam Registration.

The deadline to complete the AP Course Contract is no later than Friday, October 23rd.

By initialing below, I understand the requirements of enrolling in this/these AP course(s); and my parent(s)/guardian(s) and I agree to the following terms:

The demands of an AP course exceed those of a general college prep course, and I committed to the extra effort needed to be successful in each course.

I realize that some of my AP courses are a year-long commitment and it is an expectation that I will not withdraw from this AP course at the end of the first semester.

I may not drop an AP course after the drop/add deadline set by JHHS unless approval is received after a discussion of a meeting is held by the teacher, parent, principal, and my counselor.

I realize that in order to receive weighted credit for an AP course, that I must take the associated AP Exam. If I elect not to take the associated AP Exam, I will only be awarded 0.5 quality points onto my GPA.

I realize that if I earn a D in a class, that I will not receive 0.5 quality points onto my GPA for taking the class or 0.5 quality points for taking the exam.

I realize if I decide to take a late exam, a fee of $40 per exam will incur unless it is a circumstance that is approved by College Board.

I have reviewed the AP Calendar on College Board's website and if I have 2 or more exams on the same day, I know that I may request a late test date by February 26th.

I understand that I should enroll in My AP using my College Board log in at the beginning of the Fall and/or Spring Semester for each AP class.
