WTMC exploring options to organise an Avalanche Awareness course through an external provider (for club members only). Please sign up if you would be interested in taking the course.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This form is to assess whether there would be sufficient interest to contract a course. It does not mean you are committing to attend or that your spot on the course is guaranteed.

DESCRIPTION TBC:

The course would take place in Whakapapa and be contracted to an outdoor training provider.
Leave Friday night. One day avalanche course. One day free time on the mountain (e.g. practice self-arrest in your own time, go skiing). Drive back to Wellington on Sunday night.
Stay at the WTMC lodge for two nights.

The course would cover:
- what avalanches are
- issues relating to avalanches and assessing terrain
- companion rescue.

COST TBC:
approx $450, including day course, transport and two nights at the lodge (incl food) + alpine equipment (ice axe, crampons, helmet, transceiver, shovel, probe)
(Note - fee might increase a little to reflect new transport and lodge rates for the 2022 winter season)
