At ECVS, junior high students participate in complimentary courses or commonly referred to options. You will be placed in a new option every quarter, for a total of 4 options this year. You will not be permitted to take the same option twice.
Please read through the following option descriptions that will be offered at ECVS during the 2021-22 school year. Select your top FIVE choices from the options list. Please note that course fees have been included in the descriptions.

Culinary Arts (Foods)
In this option, students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to use a variety of food preparation techniques to plan and prepare nutritious, tasty and attractive foods. Students will critically think, work as a team and use time management in a kitchen setting. Students will also develop knowledge skills and attitudes that have immediate and future applications in their personal and family lives, as well as in local and global environments. There will be a $30 fee per student.
Drama *Runs Quarter 1 AND 2 combined
This dynamic option will allow students to explore their creativity through various performance techniques. They will participate in a variety of theatre sports (Improvisation!) that will help students develop their own creative process. The course will focus on ensemble work, using your imagination and role-playing with an emphasis on movement and stage presence. Students will have the opportunity to perform in a one-act play, film an infomercial as well as develop a student created collective with a musical element. Students will learn about and participate in all aspects of a drama performance. This course has a $10 fee per student.
Entrepreneurship
In this option you will have the opportunity to work on your entrepreneurial skills by creating your own business! We will be learning about the basics including start-up plans, investment, marketing and sales. The end goal is a marketplace day where you will have an opportunity to run your business and hopefully see it thrive!
Esthetics
Esthetics gives students the chance to explore the hairstyling and esthetics components of Cosmetology. They learn basic hairstyling, hair care, and braiding techniques, as well as skin care and manicuring. Students will learn how to use and experiment with their own items (makeup, skin care routine, hair accessories etc). Students will also learn health and safety requirements and regulations for hair/nail salon and other related workplaces. This course has a $15 fee per student.
Photography
Students will become familiar with cameras and their different options. Students will explore different aspects of photography with a focus on manual settings - aperture, shutter speed, ISO. Students will also practice the art of doing critiques, in order to improve their own photographic skills. They will also dabble in portrait photography. This course has a $10 fee per student.
Scrapbook It!
Students, let your creativity take flight as you learn about basic but essential scrapbook designs and skills in Scrapbook It! Using both digital and paper resources, create a one of a kind scrapbook based on a theme of your choice. For example, Do you have pictures from your family vacation that need to be put into a scrapbook? What about making a scrapbook showcasing all of the fun you are having at ECVS? Choose a theme that is important to you and let the cutting and pasting begin. This course has a $10 fee per student.
STEAM
Come and explore the fun and creative side of Science Technology Engineering Art and Math! This class will focus on a wide variety of student-lead projects including indoor gardening (hydroponics, Indigenous medicine gardens, space gardens and sprouting microgreens), digital art (3D printing, graphic design, DIY stickers), coding and robotics (Micro:bits, Sphero, Hummingbird, VR, Scratch), taking on engineering design challenges, science or math-themed art projects, exploring local ecosystems and so much more! Depending on the quarter, we will learn from Indigenous Elders to plant, grow and harvest medicinal plants to make soaps, salves, and other home-made remedies to save our astronauts on Mars! Projects and challenges will vary depending on the season but YOU will get to have a say in what we explore together! This course has a $10 fee per student.
Woodworking
Students will learn the tools and techniques of the wood shop, through hands-on learning. Students will design and build a cutting board, as well as design and build a board game of their own. This course will have a $40 fee per student.
