Workload creep and class size
Dear Faculty:

The UUP would like to know if you have experienced an increased or unreasonable workload. The recent and ongoing Covid pandemic has encouraged an enormous shift to online teaching for virtually every faculty member. As of this writing, the University is planning on an “in person” semester for the Fall, and a return to physical classroom teaching. Yet, as we haltingly go back to more “normal” teaching arrangements, it seems unlikely that anything will be exactly the same as it once was. More importantly, there are several indications about increasing class sizes and workloads in higher education, underwritten at least in part by the faculty’s familiarity with an online teaching environment. We want to know if you have experienced any of these issues and want to work with you about how to address them, especially as you embark on potential online or hybrid delivery.
