This performing group is for learning the following Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn,  Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion (drums, cymbals, xylophones). There are no guitars in band. You will need to provide your own instrument and class method book. Assistance may be available on a case by case basis.

Although beginning band is typically reserved for the 6th grade, due to the impact of distance learning, we will be accepting brand-new students at all three grade levels this year! For those who may have played in the past, but are worried about having fallen behind during the pandemic, we will be starting slow and easy so we can all get back into the groove again.

Expect to learn proper techniques for playing your instrument, how to read and write music notation, how to work as a team, improve communication skills both verbally and non-verbally, and how to be an engaging performer!

There will be scheduled evening concert performances throughout the year, and all students are expected to participate. Additional playing opportunities and music clubs will also be made available to registered members of the Band. Join us and become amazing!

Orchestra is open to all students, even if they do not have music experience. The focus will be on learning instruments, reading and playing music, learning concert songs, concert etiquette, teamwork, learning music theory and performing publicly.

Orchestra Instruments Offered:  violin, viola, cello, bass

Choir is open to all DSMS students. In Choir, students will have the opportunity to fine tune their singing skills by learning about proper breathing, pitch, rhythm, and sight singing, all while singing and performing fun and enjoyable music. No auditions, or previous experience is necessary!
