Thank for your interest in
The Kin-dom Collective's upcoming book circle featuring The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, & Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Mate, MD, a leading physician, author, and teacher who is drawing connections between our individual and collective health amidst the stress and pressures of our modern capitalist culture.
Because we want to learn at a life-giving pace, we are spreading the book, comprised of 5 sections, across 10 weeks. This averages to 50 pages per week.
Who this book circle is ideal for:
Community Leaders, Circle & Restorative Justice Practitioners, Pastors, Educators, Organizers, Social Workers, Therapists, Medical Professionals, and/or DEIB leaders who have been integrating their own trauma and healing and desire to deepen their learning in a community of other practitioners. While we aim in our practice of Circle to be a "safe enough" space for peer-learning, this space is not set-up to process individual trauma. We say "safe enough" because the work of healing involves emotional risk, discomfort and the potential of harm. We commit to being as trauma informed and aware even as we explore trauma in our culture and society.
When:
The virtual option will be offered every other Wednesday beginning February 15 through April 5 from 6:30-8:00pm EDT.
For those reading along in the NY/NJ area and prefer to gather in person for dinner and dialogue, we will hold in-person Circles on Fridays, February 17 & March 17 from 6:30-9:00pm EDT in Harlem, NY. Those who join online are welcome to meet in person and we anticipate some overlap between virtual and in-person content and folx. We will flow with who shows! Select which dates you hope to attend so we can plan accordingly.
Support Our Work: The Kin-dom Collective seeks to make this offering and all future practices accessible through the abundance and mutuality of community. Consider supporting this book series with any donation from $10-$100.
