Helping Students Write Their Way into Disciplinary Knowledge: Principles of Smart Teaching
The Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center invites you to a workshop for GTA, lecturer, and professorial faculty across the disciplines who assign writing in their courses. The session is especially appropriate for instructors of “WC” Written Communication courses.

Date: March 5, 2020
Time: 11:30 am-1:30 pm
Location: Student Union 262C

Lunch will be provided, and all participants will receive a copy of How Learning Works: Seven Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching, by Susan Ambrose et al., plus a $100 stipend for completing the workshop deliverable.

We will discuss research-based principles of learning, focusing on types of knowledge, the role of prior knowledge, and feedback and practice. Participants will draft a "learning principles pledge" to apply to their own course and assignment designs.
