This scholarship is
funded by the National Science Foundation’s
Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program to provide monies for students in the STEM disciplines who would like to teach at the secondary level. STARS
stands for Developing STEM Teachers Across Rural Schools.
The criteria for applying and selection for this scholarship are as follows.
ALL
Teach in rural schools after completion of the degree/licensure for two years for each year of the Noyce support (up to six years possible).
Undergraduates
- Must be a junior or senior STEM major, specifically in these content areas: Mathematics, Biology, or Chemistry with Secondary Teacher licensure, and be able to complete the bachelor's degree in five years.
- Must have completed 60 hours of undergraduate coursework from an accredited college or university prior to the semester of application.
- Must have a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.75 or better.
- Must have successfully completed the following course: ED, 200, & 220 and ENG 101 & 102 each with a grade of C or better.
- Must satisfy the following coursework or equivalent, for the appropriate major, each with a grade of C or better:
- Math majors: Math 250 and at least 1 upper-division mathematics course required in the major.
- Biology majors: BIOL 209, 210, and at least 1 upper-division biology course required in the major.
- Chemistry majors: CHEM 131, 132, and at least 1 upper-division chemistry course required in the major.
Post-baccalaureate Initial Licensure with a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction- Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA with an approved content degree (see above).
- Must have a passing score on the appropriate PRAXIS II exam.
Recipients of this scholarship, in addition to course will be required to - Participate in monthly Math and Science Circles.
- Plan collaboratively and implement STEM Saturday opportunities.
