Ashe County Schools Volunteer Information
The Ashe County Board of Education recognizes the valuable contributions which school volunteers can make in the learning process and educational goals of the school district. Instructional programs are enhanced through the participation of community members, local business and industry, and parents of the students. These volunteers contribute time, resources, and expertise and provide needed support to help ensure educational success for all children.
Individuals may choose to volunteer at the levels listed below. (A description for each level is included)

Level 1 - A Level 1 Volunteer  is intended for activities that do not involve direct and independent supervision of students, local field trips, outdoor projects, room parent.                                                                                                           Requires only the approval of the school principal and does not require a criminal record background check.
Level 2 - A Level 2 Volunteer is intended for activities that include, but are not limited to, front-desk volunteer, tutors who directly supervise students, overnight filed trips responsible for students other than their own biological or adopted student(s), lunch buddies, mentors, instructional volunteers, or any other activity where a volunteer is directly and independently responsible for supervising students.         Requires principal approval as well as a criminal record background check with a review of the national sex offender registry and school district approval.
Level 3 - A Level 3 Volunteer is intended to activities that include, but are not limited to, coaches, and/or drivers of activity buses.                                                              Requires criminal records background check with a review of the national sex offender registry, and drug screening.
