Recruitment and retention issues remain major obstacles to establishing a fully staffed, stable and sustainable rural healthcare workforce. This short survey aims to ascertain if there are any initiatives in individual European countries designed to enhance recruitment and retention.
EURIPA published a Blueprint for the development of Rural Practice in Europe in 2022 which emphasised the importance of specialised rural training and the establishment of specific pathways for rural health careers.
There has been recent interest globally in developing pathways to rural practice, encompassing a career long approach to creating a sustainable and appropriately trained rural workforce. EURIPA believes that rural health pathways should encompass a lifelong approach to career development, beginning with school students exploring their choices in health care through higher education and further training.
Please fill in this survey and pass it to as many colleagues as possible. It is crucial that we have representation from as many countries in Europe as possible.
The findings will be discussed in workshops at three major WONCA conferences this year with the aim of using the data to inform policy makers, professional bodies and educational establishments.
It is our ambition that your contributions will help establish rural training programmes and sustainable pathways to fulfilling and worthwhile rural careers for doctors and nurses. The results from the survey will also highlight good practice, and key issues that need to be addressed. The findings will be published.
We have kept this survey as short as possible and it should take you about 15 minutes to complete.
Thank you.
