Campaign and Election Information
1. Member schools may run for the offices of President, Vice-President, Vice-President for Junior High/Middle Schools, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Chaplain, and *Treasurer*. NOTE: Students do NOT run for office. SCHOOLS run for office.
2. A current officer school cannot run for an office for the next year.
3. Three (3) minutes will be allotted for campaign skit/speech for the office of President.
4. Two (2) minutes will be allotted for campaign skits/speeches for all other offices.
5. The use of duct tape will not be permitted to post campaign items on the walls.
6. Candidates are NOT permitted to throw objects, including candy.
7. Music CANNOT be used in skits/speeches. Skits/Speeches must reflect leadership skills: creativity, organization, motivation, public speaking ability, communication skills, etc. Skit/speeches for campaign should be appropriate and in good taste-no vulgarities, obscenities, profanities, etc. Raps are not allowed, as this is not a talent show.
8. Each member school will have two votes. Advisors from each delegation should designate one student to cast the votes for their school. The election will take place during the noon hour. Results will be announced during the third general session. Installation of the newly elected office schools will take place immediately following the announcement. All new officer schools will meet with the Advisory Committee at the close of the convention.
9.THE MSASC Advisory Committee encourages member schools to run for office. This is very valuable experience for your school as well as for the student your school selects to serve the association as an officer.

MSASC Treasurer/Host School*

Any school desiring to host the state conference will be required to submit a letter to the MSASC Advisory Committee stating its willingness to serve as Treasurer of MSASC for the school year. This letter must be signed by the following: 

  • The Principal

  • The Student Council Advisor

  • The Student Council President

      The advisory committee makes the final decision on the conference location.

Campaigning at the Conference 

No school can hold office for two consecutive years.

The MSASC Advisory Board and MSASC officers thank the host school for hosting the MSASC State Conference.  As a courtesy to them, please adhere to the following rules established by the MSASC Credentials Committee.

  • No duct tape, only painters tape

  • No chewing gum indoors

  • Do not throw items

  • No balloons

  • No food or drinks in the auditorium/gym

  • No posters on sticks

  • No littering

  • No more than 10 participants involved in campaign skit presentation on stage

  • No advisor participation in campaign skit

  • No music in skits or speeches


Skits/ Speeches must reflect leadership skills: creativity, organization, motivation, public speaking ability, communication skills, etc. Skit/speeches for campaigns should be appropriate and in good taste.

Campaign skits will be judged on how they reflect leadership skills.

The violation of any of these campaign rules will result in either the immediate termination of your school’s campaign presentation or the elimination of your school from the election ballot.
