OQYS 2019: Call for Workshops
FINAL DEADLINE TO SUBMIT IS MAY 24th!!!! WE PAY OUR WORKSHOP FACILITATORS FOR THEIR TIME AND EXPERTISE!!!

About the Oregon Queer Youth Summit (OQYS):
Several hundred queer youth (any age - 24 years old) from all over the Pacific Northwest come to share their ideas and open hearts, build community, and eat delicious food. Workshops are a critical part of the idea exchange!

OQYS 2019 Theme: Be Queer, Make Space

We encourage tying your workshop into the theme, although it's not a deal breaker! Interpret it in any way that inspires you! To us, the theme calls to mind how we want to not only break down the systems that oppress us but actively work to dismantle oppression within queer communities. How are we showing up for each other? For example:

- Decolonization - coming together to take back what is ours
- Understanding, honoring, and celebrating all of our identities
- Interrupting injustice both outside and inside our communities
- Forming new friendships / sharing experiences as a way to think about others and not just think about yourself
- Showing up for each other / love looks different for all of us
- Our experiences are all different from each other - we might use the same word, but mean different things - letting people self identify - not assuming shared experience.

How do we make space? Do we imagine new galaxies of possibilities, where we exist beyond our oppression? Do we make space in the here and now, for those in our orbit and beyond?

Workshops:
Facilitated by queer youth and younger people ages 24 and under!
Workshops and presentations will be about 1 hour long about any knowledge or experience you want to share with the community in a safe environment. This year OQYS will tentatively take place at Open School East. Your workshop can take the form of a group conversation, an educational lecture, a panel of experts, an art making activity, or something entirely different! Previous workshops have been group art projects, How to Start a GSA, Drag 101, How Do You Self Care?, Race Representation in the Queer Community, Gender Identities, etc.
