I Need Diverse Games has been granted 25 Core + Summit passes for the 2020 Game Developer Conference. The conference will be held March 16 - 20, 2020, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
Applications will be accepted beginning on November 18, 2019, and will close on December 6, 2019, at 11:59 pm, Pacific Standard Time (US). We will aim to notify All Access pass recipients by the end of December 2019. Applications will be reviewed by a small committee consisting of Tanya DePass (Director of I Need Diverse Games), and a select group of industry professionals. This review will be conducted with identifying information stripped off to avoid bias as much as possible.
Our qualifications for this years INDG GDC Scholarship have changed, so please read carefully:
Scholarship recipients must be able to attend four out of the five days of the Conference, barring reasonable circumstances that may arise to prevent attendance.
Currently enrolled college students are not eligible to receive INDG scholarships this year. While we appreciate your excitement and eagerness to attend and begin the path to a career in the video game industry, we have found that the Core + Summits pass is most beneficial to those who have already begun their career. There are many scholarships available for students, and we encourage you to seek them out, or to take advantage of GDC’s $89 Student Expo Pass.
In order to be considered for the scholarship, you must have a minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in the gaming industry, or one completed game/project that you can share with us for review. We understand that many people consider GDC an opportunity to break into the gaming industry, but the reality is that most of the topics covered in the Summit will be more applicable to those who have already gained a few levels in their chosen field.
You must be able to provide your own accommodation, flight, and other incidental expenses. INDG can only provide passes to awardees. Please keep in mind that San Francisco is an expensive city and research your potential travel costs before applying.
Preference will be given to marginalized members of the community who may not otherwise have a chance to attend an industry event. Please keep in mind that we take this very seriously, as it aligns closely with the mission of our organization. If you are unable to articulate how your attendance at GDC would help foster greater diversity in games, this may not be the scholarship for you.
Please review your application carefully before submitting it to us. You will receive a confirmation message after successfully submitting your application. You may wish to take a screenshot of this message for your own records as it is the only confirmation you will receive. If you have issues with the form, please email us immediately at
indg@ineeddiversegames.org. We expect to get far more applications than passes, so keep that in mind as you apply.
