Welcome to the Tumaini Home Stay Program. This program has been designed to allow the festival guests to experience the livelihood of the residents of the Dzaleka Refugee Camp, in Dowa, Malawi. Please note that the Tumaini Home Stay Program is not a holiday package. It’s a unique experience for a social project, that provides the guest an insight to the shelter, lifestyle and culture within the Dzaleka Refugee Camp. This project aims to shift the attitude and negative perception people have towards refugees, by creating connections between guests and host families.
We hope you will enjoy your stay and appreciate the purpose of the program.

General Information and Process

1. Apply online
2. Once your application is successful, you will be added to the Home Stay participant's list.
3. Tumaini Letu will match you with a host family who will host you over the festival weekend and share contact details.
4. You will be provided with a bedroom that will consist of basic outside bathroom facilities/toilets and mattresses. Some houses will have electricity.
5. The host family will prepare one meal for you each day, included in your contribution fee.
6. The Home Stay Program aims to support the families in Dzaleka and therefore we charge a 15$ accommodation fee per person per night.
