Be Body Positive Philly is looking for motivated volunteers for the Spring 2023 Semester!

NOTE: To be considered for an interview, you must fill out this application AND attend one virtual info session. You must attend ONE of the following info sessions on Zoom: November 9 (8-9PM), November 10 (8-9PM), or November 16 (7-8 pm) over

Program Description:
Be Body Positive Philly aims to address eating disorder risk in Philadelphia middle and high schoolers through the delivery of a research-validated body positivity curriculum through an innovative near-peer mentorship model. Undergraduate/graduate students will lead weekly educational workshops in a Philadelphia public middle/high school teaching a weight-neutral and health-centered approach to self-care. All facilitators must complete The Body Positive certification training, which covers five competencies, diversity and inclusion, and workshop leadership.

https://courses.thebodypositive.org/p/facilitator-training*IMPORTANT NOTE* - We will be covering the cost of facilitator trainings and transportation to schools. In line with our near-peer mentorship model, volunteers must be under the age of 24.
Volunteer Expectations:
- Complete virtual facilitator training (~20 hours total, can be done in multiple sittings over summer break)
- Complete background checks/clearances (over summer break)
- Availability to lead a workshop on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays between 2-5PM
- Volunteer a minimum of 5hrs/week for at least 12 consecutive weeks (time commitment includes workshop time, travel to and from schools, curriculum planning, student recruitment, fundraising, and volunteer meetings)
Volunteer Qualities We're Looking For:
- An interest in learning about eating disorders, body positivity, and self-esteem
- An interest in helping build a community-based preventive care program from the ground up
- Self-driven individuals who will take initiative
- Individuals who like engaging with students and getting to know them beyond the delivery of a curriculum
- Individuals who like lesson planning and have an interest in helping with curriculum modifications
- Prior experience working with middle/high school students (preferred but not required)
- Prior experience mentoring others (preferred but not required)
- Individuals who value diversity and inclusivity
