Setting Boundaries!
Imagine setting boundaries that create connection instead of disconnection.

As a parent one of your most delicate, sometimes scary, yet most important roles is to create boundaries.

Boundaries enable a teen to:
- Relate to themselves and others by recognizing their emotions, thoughts and energy as distinct from other peoples’
- Navigate their world without being overwhelmed
- Make and hold their own boundaries.
- Have healthy sleep, eating, exercise and social habits
- Avoid developing addictions

Commonly parents’ attempts to make boundaries come out in one of three ways:

1) As threats and/or authoritative ‘power-over’ communications, which create submissive or rebellious responses from teens and do not support them to grow.
“Do it now or else you lose your phone privileges!”
“Do I have to explain it to you again?”

2) As holding back or giving up on making boundaries, so the teen has no scaffolding to feel contained and navigate their world.

3) As subtle manipulation through unauthentic praise or criticism.

How can you as a parent create boundaries without resorting to being authoritative?

How can boundaries instead foster trust, connection and resilience in your relationship with your teen?

This is what we will be exploring during these 2 hours!

Oriented to parents & caregivers of teens, but open to all.
