WY Hunt Fish Program Application

Overview

WY Hunt Fish is a support structure for educational and mentored programs focusing on hunting, trapping and fishing skills in Wyoming by coordinated by partner organization. WY Hunt Fish is associated with each individual program or event, not the entire partner organization. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department may support these programs through WGFD’s communications platform, event registration and application support, and the use of the WY Hunt Fish brand.

How WGFD Supports WY Hunt Fish Programs

Events and programs that are part of the  WY Hunt Fish program may receive the following benefits from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department:

  • Events may be publicized through WGFD channels, such as WGFD Instagram, WGFD Facebook and WGFD email lists
  • WGFD will host event registration in Kalkomey
  • WGFD will share compiled data of participants continued participation in hunting and fishing
  • Use of WY Hunt Fish branding in event marketing materials
  • Education materials or resources
  • How to guide, which will include R3 best practices, WY Hunt Fish brand guidelines and general event management guides

Requirements to participate in WY Hunt Fish Program:

Host organization requirements:

  • Must be an established community organization, including the following: 501c3 non-profits, community centers, hunting & fishing nonprofits, schools, guides or other governmental organization
  • The host organization must have proof of liability insurance
  • All partnerships and activities are at the discretion of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department
Skills events requirements:
  • Events should focus on education on hunting, fishing and trapping skills
  • Fundraising, profits or selling products is not the intended outcome of the program
  • Events should be open and financially accessible to the public either via application or open registration
  • Teach ethical and legal hunting and fishing practices
Mentored program requirements:
  • Volunteers must pass a background check
  • Programs should focus on education on hunting and fishing trapping skills; Fundraising, profits or selling products cannot be the intended outcome of the program
  • Mentors must complete mentor training from the organization, International Hunter Education Association, or First Hunt Foundation
  • There must be greater than a 1:1 ratio on programs with minors
  • Hunting programs must include a live fire range safety day prior to the mentored hunt
  • Programs must include a pre-mentorship experience or educational meetings, i.e. casting lessons, range safety sessions, skill building session
  • Practice ethical and legal hunting and fishing practices
