Decolonizing Documentaries: The Evolution of a Mètis filmmaker
In this practical workshop Matt LeMay will teach you the basics of documentary film making and highlight what pitfalls to avoid when making a film or video. Matt will also discuss the power of Indigenous storytelling, the importance of decolonizing documentaries and how his work has evolved over the course of making 30 documentaries.

Matt LeMay - is a bestselling, multiple award-winning filmmaker, who writes, shoots and edits his own work. Matt is an innovator in the field of educational documentary film with a strong focus on reconciliation and the environment. Matt currently has five new films available for viewing on Amazon Prime in the UK and USA.
Since 2007, Matt and his team have received numerous awards and successfully produced over 500 educational videos and 30 documentary films for a wide variety of clients across Canada and around the world. Matt is passionate about film making and exploring his Métis heritage. Matt is a Citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario and his root ancestors are the Clermont Dusome family that originally hail from the Red River region of Manitoba, later settling in Penetanguishene Ontario. Matt currently lives in the Ottawa Valley with his wife Jennifer and his daughters Ella and Noa.
