Functions, Responsibilities, and the Selection Process

Functions:
The board members are responsible for upholding the organization’s mission, vision, and values, and for providing overall leadership and strategic direction to the organization. In addition to setting policies and maintaining the nonprofit’s overall direction, the board establishes priorities, crafts strategies and ensures that plans are well-implemented.

Responsibilities:
  1. Understand and support the mission & vision of the organization.
  2. Support and work with the Executive Leadership Team to create a strategic direction for PPNA and to set short- and long-term goals and policies.
  3. Attend quarterly board meetings with no more than one unexcused absence annually. The full board meets approximately 4 times per year, at least once per quarter. Meetings will last approximately 1 hour and are scheduled based on availability of the Executive Leadership Team and all board members.
  4. Actively participate and work collaboratively with other board members towards the execution of at least one special project and/or community event annually.
  5. Stay familiar with the organization’s bylaws and operation procedures.
  6. Each board member is asked to commit to at least a one-year term.
  7. Selected board members will have expressed their passion about improving the overall quality of life in our neighborhood and their willingness to contribute their time, effort, and financial support to help the association be successful in achieving its mission.
  8. Their accomplishments will allow them to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.
  9. Serve as a member of the board in a manner that promotes the best interests of the organization, the neighborhood, and the City of Clearwater as a whole.
  10. Board members must continue to be in good standing with the organization throughout their term. Should any board member fail to uphold the mission and vision of the organization, any member of the Executive Leadership Team can make a motion to remove the board member from their position and if the motion is seconded and there is a majority vote in favor of the motion to remove the board member from their position, the motion carries.

The Selection Process

  1. Interested candidates should complete the application form below.
  2. Applications will be reviewed by each member of the Executive Leadership Team and all active board members in good standing with the organization.
  3. During the next board meeting, top candidates can be nominated by any member of the Executive Leadership Team and any active board member.
  4. A thorough discussion amongst the Executive Leadership Team and all active board members will be held and if a formal motion to appoint a candidate to a board member position is made, the motion is seconded, and there is a unanimous vote to approve the motion... then the candidate gets appointed as a new Board Member.
  5. Candidates will be notified of the result immediately following this process.
