We are a team of researchers from the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal and we wish to understand people's interactions with the protected forests in Bengaluru as a part of a DBT funded research project. In this survey, we focus on Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) and we intend to collect information on how you use/benefit from this forest, how these forests have changed over time and their potential future scenarios.
Bannerghatta National Park is the largest natural ecosystem for the city of Bengaluru. Located at about 20km from the city center, BNP includes 13 reserve forest areas and is spread across 4 wildlife ranges. It was declared a 'national park' back in 1974 and subsequently large forest patches were brought under it in 2011. Its biological park/zoo, wildlife safaris and the 'elephant' attraction makes it a popular tourist spot.
