ABOUT GR!ASP:
Girls Rock! DC After-School Program (GR!ASP) is a six-week in-person after-school music education program for young folks ages 8 to 18 in the DC area. GR!ASPers learn to play an instrument, form a band, write an original song, and perform it at a big concert!

Spring 2022 GR!ASP sessions are IN-PERSON at 7DrumCity (1506 North Capitol St NW). We're holding one session in-person:
 - Age 8-12: April 19 - May 28, 2022

We teach GR!ASPers to play the instrument of their choice (electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard, vocals, or drums) and offer guidance in songwriting, collaboration, and teamwork. Participants receive more than 30 hours of tailored, small-group in-person instruction. No music knowledge is needed. We even provide the instruments for GR!ASPers to borrow and use at home during the program. At the end of a GR!ASP session, participants share their original music at a live concert for all their fans!

This program is planned to be in-person, but may be adjusted based on prevailing health and safety guidance.

VOLUNTEER ROLES:
Volunteers lead GR!ASP and help our GR!ASPers have an amazing session. We have four different roles that volunteers can play at GR!ASP. Volunteers may play more than role, depending on the availability needs, and preference is given to volunteers who can play more than one role. You'll have a chance to apply for each of the roles that you're interested in. Preference will be given to folks who can play more than one role and for those who can volunteer and both sessions. All volunteers are offered a monetary gift to thank them for their time.
VOLUNTEER ROLES EXPLAINED:
VOLUNTEER TRAINING:
You'll receive training on how to follow the program curriculum, prepare for sessions, and make GR!ASP engaging for GR!ASPers. Volunteers will join a private slack for GR!ASP and will receive support from the Girls Rock! DC team throughout the program.
VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT:
GR!ASP is a six-week session. Some volunteer roles require you to facilitate a session every week for all six weeks. Other roles are one-time opportunities. Both types of volunteer roles are important commitments, and volunteers are responsible for completing their training and required documentation before GR!ASP and for showing up for their assigned sessions during the program.

All Instrument Instructors and Band Coaches are required to attend the Opening Party (Tuesday April 19 5:30-7:30pm) and the Showcase (Saturday May 28 9am-2pm) in addition to the instruction sessions.
HOW TO APPLY:
If you're 18+, please complete the below application so we can determine if your interest, availability and skills and Girls Rock! DC's needs result in a match.

As GR!ASP supports minors, volunteer training and a background check are required for ALL volunteers.

At Girls Rock! DC, we strive to create the most inclusive, safest space possible for our GR!ASPers and volunteers. We do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or any other form of discrimination and bigotry. We also strive to create a volunteer base that reflects the diversity of our youth and community and strongly encourage people of color, people who are queer, gender non-binary and/or trans, and any folks who come from traditionally oppressed experiences to apply to be Girls Rock! DC volunteers. We ALL need role models.

Ready to apply? Use this form to apply to volunteer at GR!ASP. Applications are open until Feb 28. Acceptances will be sent out on a rolling basis.
