Learn from Scientists. Create with Artists
Ages: 14-25
Date: February 17, 2024
Time: 9am-5pm

This registration form is to sign up for the STEMarts Bootcamp taking place at UNM-Taos HIVE in Taos, New Mexico on February 17, 2024. The workshop will include coffee and croissants in the morning and lunch.

About the Workshop

Agnes Chavez, STEMarts Lab Director, and artist, sets the stage, stating, "We kick off the morning with an exploration of space, spanning from the subatomic level to the international realm of space policy." The journey begins with Dr. Steven Goldfarb, a particle physicist beaming in from CERN, the esteemed home of the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Goldfarb will tackle the intriguing topic of "How we measure what we cannot see," offering insights into the history of the universe and discussing career pathways in physics. Following this, we'll virtually welcome Dr. Namrata Goswami, a professor and space policy expert, from a rural community in India, who will provide a glimpse into the global space policy landscape and shed light on diverse cultural perspectives on space.

The day progresses with participants enjoying a complimentary lunch, fostering connections and building friendships. Post-lunch, the focus shifts to art-making inspired by the earlier science discussions. Chavez introduces "SPACE MESSENGERS [AR]," a forthcoming interactive Augmented Reality exploration of the universe. Participants delve into the latest technologies including Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality. Through a hands-on workshop, guided by STEMarts Ambassadors, UNM alumni/artists Ian Harrisson, and Julia Bock, participants will utilize the free 3D modeling software Blender to create space-themed digital content for the AR experience in the upcoming installation.

Furthermore, bootcamp attendees have the opportunity to join the Space-for-Earth Design Challenge, an international competition offering awards for outstanding entries. Additionally, interested participants can sign up to become STEMarts Ambassadors, receiving specialized training to earn stipends at live events and workshops.

Don't miss this enriching opportunity to explore the cosmos and dive into cutting-edge technology at the STEMarts Youth Bootcamp. Join us at UNM Taos HIVE on February 17th from 9 am to 5 pm. Register now to secure your spot!
