Apply for a position as a volunteer abortion doula with the Oberlin Doula Collective (ODC)!

**The Oberlin Doula Collective is not a recognized or chartered student group at Oberlin College.
The Oberlin Doula Collective is a volunteer-run organization of abortion doulas based in Lorain County, Ohio. We value reproductive justice, health equity, and bodily autonomy, and we believe every person deserves a compassionate support companion for their abortion. At the moment we provide virtual support for surgical abortions and medication abortions, as well hoping to re-launch free transportation assistance for abortion appointments. We are volunteered based and do not offer certifications.

What is an Abortion Doula?
You may have heard of a birth doula... An abortion doula is similar! An abortion doula is a non-medical support companion who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to people having a surgical or medication abortion. An abortion doula keeps abortion patients company before, during, and after their abortions, and helps improve patient comfort and self-advocacy by providing basic pain-management techniques, breathing techniques, imagery, and/or comforting conversation. ODC abortion doulas are expected to volunteer on a regular basis for at least one year (if you have questions or concerns about the time-commitment, please reach out to us!). In order to become a volunteer abortion doula with ODC, you are required to attend a full-weekend in-person training May 21st and 22nd (9:30am-3pm) in Oberlin, Ohio with a lunch break from 12-1. We will be meeting in Wilder 101, both days. If you are unable to make the full day trainings we still encourage you to attend what you can if you are interested in this work. If you are only interested in a specific portion of our training (emotional support, laws, reproductive justice, abortion procedure) reach out to us and we can let you know a time frame to attend. If you miss large sections of the training you will not be able to volunteer with us as doula.
