After going to my doctor of chiropractic I have less:

Tell your story. After seeing my chiropractor, I have noticed the following changes:

I am writing about the recent changes that restricts my access to chiropractic care that requires x-rays.

The policy change stops me from accessing chiropractic care that requires x-rays to guide treatment.

These changes prevent me from getting x-rays from my chiropractor to diagnose conditions of the spine (other than severe pathology).

These changes prevent my chiropractor from taking an x-ray to ensure it is safe to treat my spine.

If I have an undiagnosed condition that is not found because I no longer have the right to choose to have a chiropractor take an x-ray of my spine, it may increase my risk.

These changes prevent me from continuing the care that I need to help manage my painful condition.

This type of care helped me get off of certain pain medications, or helped me reduce my usage of pain medication.

Seeing my chiropractor has impacted my health, quality of life, and activities of daily living.

I am disappointed that these changes to x-ray usage have occurred since it is in conflict with current standards of practice in Canada and the U.S.

These changes will eliminate access to an entire branch of chiropractic care from BC.

The government should honor the Health Professions Act that states chiropractors can take x-rays for diagnostic or imaging purposes.

I am willing to be exposed to low amounts of radiation because I feel it is more beneficial for my chiropractor to see my spinal anatomy. I feel more comfortable because it increases treatment safety and provides me and my doctor with more information about my health.

Under the HCCFA (Health Care and Care Facility Act) every adult "has the right to select a particular form of available health care on any grounds". I am disappointed that the CCBC or "College" that is responsible protect public interest is not protecting me.

There are many published articles that support the use of x-rays in chiropractic. I am disappointed that the "College" chose to limit their decision making to one scientific review that they funded.

I understand that chiropractors learn many different methods in their training. I am upset that my choices are limited when it comes to chiropractic care with these new changes.

I know that restricting patient’s access to chiropractic x-rays burdens our healthcare system. I have agreed to pay my chiropractor privately and I feel I should maintain my right to have that choice.

My chiropractor does not have access to refer for x-rays to be taken at BC medical imaging centers in B.C. Therefore, I would like my chiropractor to retain their rights to take x-rays for biomechanical analysis of my spine or for any other clinical reasons as they see fit.

I would like to add this statement:

I understand that these new standards permit chiropractors to take x-rays if the application of X-rays is indicated by a patient history or physical examination that identifies serious pathology or clinical reasons to suspect serious pathology. Routine or repeat X-rays used as a regular protocol during the evaluation and diagnosis of patients are not clinically justified. However, for x-ray guided chiropractic this new amendment will not allow my chiropractor to serve patients effectively.

I strongly recommend that the Government of BC rescind the changes implemented by the College of Chiropractors of BC.
