Intro to Rhythmic Jazz
BSL presents Intro to Rhythmic Jazz for the month of June. Catered for solo jazz dancers looking to have a better understanding of rhythms in authentic/solo jazz, rhythmic jazz combines elements of footwork and percussive rhythms in order to give solo jazz dancers the opportunity to participate in the music in a deeper manner than before.

In this series, we will introduce dancers to the concept of rhythms in dance, establish grooves and base steps and rhythms, and improvise jazz steps over these base grooves and rhythms. After which, we explore how rhythm can dictate the movement of a jazz step so that the jazz step becomes transformed - no longer just the basic step but a variation that moves and sounds different from the basic version.

We will also work on how to be precise with rhythms as it is used in lindy hop and solo jazz, echoing the way that rhythms have been used in tap dance but in a simpler way.

Expect your solo jazz and lindy hop footwork to be changed and sharpened by this course!

Intro to Rhythmic Jazz will be taught by B.
Previous knowledge of jazz steps is highly recommended.

Class is on Fridays 8 to 9pm at The Studio at Bugis.

I understand the risks involved in coming to class and accept that I may be subject to safety regulations and restrictions in class (such as temperature taking, social distancing, mask-wearing and hand sanitization etc). I waive/release BSL and its teachers/team of all liability related to coronavirus/coronavirus-related issues. *
It is important to ensure that when you sign up, you are able to make it for class as scheduled. There have been cases where people have signed up and pulled out last minute (such as 1 day before the scheduled event and caused the total number to drop below the minimum.) This is unfair to the other participants who have signed up and were able to make it. We ask that you consider this before signing up. (this is waived for sudden or unexpected emergencies) *
