Mapping the Elephant Webcast #4: TRAIL: How a grassroots digitization effort became HathiTrust's 24th largest content contributor
The Technical Report Archive and Image Library (TRAIL) and its partners, one of which is HathiTrust, are working to make one category of underutilized gray literature – technical reports – much more accessible.  TRAIL began in 2006 as a digitization pilot involving one librarian from each of seven Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) schools (plus a representative of the Center for Research Libraries).  It is now an ongoing member-based collaborative digitization and preservation effort and is currently the 24th largest content contributor to the HathiTrust.  This talk will address:
•        a brief background of TRAIL and its mission;
•        how TRAIL came to be associated with HathiTrust;
•        some of the advantages TRAIL has realized from partnering with a HathiTrust member;
•        how TRAIL’s relationship with HathiTrust has evolved over time;
•        where we believe the TRAIL/HathiTrust partnership is “driving and supporting change in the research ecosystem”;
•        where we are headed in the future.
