Book Grant Scheme
It is difficult to implement this scheme in a manner that is fair and equitable. Despite the ever-increasing cost of schoolbooks, every effort is made to keep the cost to families as low as possible.

The Department of Education states that relief may be given to a “necessitous pupil”. A “necessitous pupil” is defined as a child “from a home where genuine hardship exists, because of unemployment, prolonged illness of a parent, large family with inadequate means, mother a widow or other circumstances that would connote a similar degree of domestic financial hardship”. Please indicate if you have a Medical Card.

Only families who feel they meet the definition of a “necessitous pupil” should complete the Book Grant application form. Decisions as to eligibility will be made on the basis of the information supplied and families will be notified in due course.
