Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Nomination
The fundamental objective of the Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program is to increase the number of minority students, and others with a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities, who will pursue PhDs in core fields selected in the humanities, social sciences, and physical sciences. Hunter’s MMUF program supports undergraduate Mellon fellows, who are studying in these fields, to conduct interdisciplinary research on campus or elsewhere throughout the summer and academic year for two years. The MMUF program provides students with faculty mentoring, professional development, and with application preparation for graduate study.


The MMUF Program Provides Mellon Mays Fellows:
- On-going mentoring and collaboration with a Hunter faculty mentor on research project & individualized advising
- Community support networks
- Opportunities to attend professional research conferences and present individual research
- Opportunities to study or conduct research outside of Hunter
- Preparation for graduate school

- US citizen, Permanent Resident, or DACA
- Intention to pursue a graduate (PhD) degree in selected humanities, social sciences, and physical sciences
- Undergraduate with >36 and <100 credits at time of admission to MMUF Program
- Cumulative GPA >3.0 at time of admission to MMUF Program
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to addressing diversity and under-representation in higher education
