Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Acceptable Use Policy Form 2023-2024
This policy allows junior high and high school scholars (Grades 7-12) at UME Preparatory Academy to bring and use their own approved data device in class, instead of checking out and using a school Chromebook. Approved data devices include:
• Laptop (Mac, PC, etc.)
• Personal Chromebook
• Tablets
Other devices may be used with the approval of the IT Director, however this policy does not allow the use of cell phones as data devices or internet connections. Scholars’ cell phones are not allowed on the UME Preparatory Academy wireless network. Approved devices will be placed on the school wireless network by the IT Director, or other parties designated by the IT Director.
Please note that wifi hotspots and data tethering are not permitted for use by scholars, unless otherwise permitted by school administration. The only wireless network scholars are permitted to use while at school is the UME Preparatory Academy wireless network.
Any scholar who does not own, or is not able to bring their own data device to school, will be able to check out a Chromebook for the school year, and must complete a Chromebook checkout form.
Scholars are liable for all damages, data, images and other content on their personal device, and are expected to adhere to all of the same rules of internet usage as scholars who are using school Chromebooks. Failure to adhere to these rules can result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to revoking of school internet access.
