The Society of Women in Marine Science (SWMS) chapters at Horn Point Laboratory, University of Delaware, and Virginia Institute of Marine Science are hosting the first Delmarva SWMS Symposium on September 13-14th, 2019 at Horn Point Lab in Cambridge, MD. A component of this symposium is an outreach event which will expose middle and high school girls (6th-12th grades) to STEM resources, role models, and activities. We are bringing together researchers from a number of STEM institutions to inspire middle and high school girls to become our next generation of scientists and engineers. SWMS Saturday is a 3.5-hour event at the Horn Point Laboratory on Saturday, September 14th from 8:30-12pm. Girls will rotate through activities led by local researchers throughout the morning, with each activity representing a different STEM field. The event will be an opportunity to develop mentorships with female scientists and will prepare girls for futures in STEM. Please email hplswms@umces.edu with any questions.
