It's time to switch up the repetitive mic regimen! This is a mic/show with an emphasis on encouraging comics to practice their crowd work, heckler engagement, and a judgement-free opportunity to riff or write on stage.
If you're not interested in doing crowdwork/riffing, don't worry. You can still work out your material but just keep in mind that you might get some feedback in real-time LOL.

Well, it's pretty straight-forward. For comics, THE HECKLE MIC is a crowdwork/heckle show where you can sign up to perform in front of real audience members.
And don't worry! This isn't, like, a God-forsaken "bringer mic" (seriously, what the hell is up with that?)
If you signed up and paid for your spot, you get to perform. It's that simple. Although we'd love it if you bring friends and family, we don't expect you to nor will we play favorites. (However, we do offer a $5 kickback for every audience member you bring. Just hit up Sarah for more info).
And honestly, THE HECKLE MIC is going to be such a good time, your friends/family would want to go just because it's fun and not because you bought them tickets or begged them to for an audition LOL.

Why am I doing this? Because I think it's fun - LOL. But no really, I believe part of being a great all-around comedian is learning how to be present on stage and knowing how to mitigate/handle any crazy shit that is thrown you way.
We all love to see comics destroy hecklers at shows and we also all enjoy watching these pro comics kill on stage by crowd working their entire set. And we all know that stage time is key in getting better as comics β but there aren't a lot of opportunities to really work out those crowdwork/riffing/heckler-handling muscles at typical mics.
So, this was created as an opportunity to not only work on those skills β but also a chance for the under-booked/barely-booked/never-booked comics to practice in front of a real audience before killing it in their next show or audition.
So, yeah, this mic isn't for the easily upset or irritated comic. However, it's a great mic for comics who are looking for something new, step out of their comfort zone β and it's an even greater mic for comics who want to be a crowdwork killer / heckler destroyer.
And above all, the Heckle Mic is a great place to meet and make new friends. So many of our veteran comics met at the Heckle Mic and ended up collaborating on creative successful projects with each other. It's a community, and you're instantly welcome here.

Yeah, there are too many paid mics in the city. But trust me, the $5 covers are going towards good causes! To name a few: paying co-hosts, paying the occasional booked pro-comic, marketing expenses to bring in real audiences, Β production expenses for a real show (SHUT UP & LAUGH), and finally, towards a little needs-based fund for comics to get more stage time at paid mics and to pay for festival submissions.
