Michigan Youth Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS Application (YACHA)
Welcome to the application for the Michigan Youth Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (YACHA).

Please read all of the information below to decide if this opportunity is right for you. Feel free to email natasha.thomasjackson@moash.org if you have any questions about the application or would like additional information.

WHAT IS YACHA?

The Michigan Youth Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (YACHA) is a youth-driven leadership and advocacy group for young people living with HIV/AIDS and their allies. Council members participate in and facilitate workshops/trainings and plan events focused on HIV awareness/prevention, inclusive and affirming sexual health education, policy reform, mental health, suicide prevention, and more. Essentially, members will inform local, regional, and statewide HIV resources, programming, and policies that impact young people living with HIV.

The YACHA is a project of MOASH (the Michigan Organization on Adolescent Sexual Health) and Wellness Services, Inc. MOASH mobilizes youth voices, engages community partners, and informs decision-makers to advance sexual health, identities, and rights. Wellness Services, Inc. assists people affected by HIV/AIDS and promotes education, care, and prevention in the community.

Council members are typically 15-24 years old but exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

Council members are either youth living with HIV OR youth allies who are not living with HIV but are interested in supporting youth living with HIV.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO A YACHA MEMBER?

* We ask that council members be passionate about and invested in the work of creating an inclusive and affirming community for all.

* We ask members to consider their work on the council as a job. Members are compensated for their time, travel, and expertise. We also provide food at our meetings.

* Council members will have opportunities to be trained on a variety of sexual health topics, undergo leadership development, gain communication skills, and work on advocacy efforts. Members have a lot of say over what happens during the few months we meet and we're always open to feedback.
